Allahabad University is in the headlines again. After ragging and obscene acts with students, now a university teacher has been accused of embarrassing the Guru-Shishya tradition. Students are protesting against whatever happened in the proctor’s office recently regarding student Abhishek Gupta. But the graduate student has accused the assistant professor of Allahabad University of sexual harassment.
The student released the video and said, “I am a third year BA student in the Department of Ancient History. Assistant Professor Ajay Kumar Sagar has sexually harassed me. He proposed me in 2023 but I flatly refused. Despite this, he keeps messaging me. And kept calling. After blocking the number, he started calling from another number. He emotionally blackmailed me by saying that he was suffering from cancer. On 15th January 2024, he called me at Lavkush Park to meet me. When I refused. When I did, the professor talked about committing suicide.
I went to the park scared. Where he told me that it is not right for a teacher and a student to meet in a public place like this. After this, saying this, he took me to his room. There they forcibly had physical relations. This worsened my health. I stayed in his room the whole night. While leaving his room in the morning, he threatened me. Said that it would not be right if I told anyone. After this I came to my home from there. Since then he has been continuously harassing me.”
Regarding the allegations, Ajay Kumar Sagar told the media, “This is completely fake. The student who is making the allegations is from my class. Her brother-in-law had raped her, her family members are not aware of it.” He told me this. The evidence of which is available with me. We have also handed over all the evidence to the police. There are three boys involved in this. Who are doing all this as part of a conspiracy. A conspiracy was hatched to defame me.”
